Obesity Prevention

About our organization

Prevention is the best treatment

“Active and Healthy Childhood — Obesity Prevention” is a non-governmental organization created with a clear mission — to help build a healthier, more active, and happier generation.

We believe that the best treatment is prevention. That is why we focus our efforts on the most important stage of human development — early childhood. Our program is designed for kindergartens and schools and aims to instill healthy habits in children that stay with them for life.

Why it matters

A trend we can change

Today, Bulgaria is among the European countries with the highest share of children who are overweight or obese. More and more children spend much of their free time in front of screens, move less, and form eating habits that increase the risk of chronic disease from an early age.

Our mission is to change this trend through education, movement, support, and leading by example.

What we do

Our program

We have developed a complete educational program that brings together healthy nutrition, physical activity, medical prevention, and the active involvement of parents.

We work directly with children from the age of four, using interactive methods, game-based approaches, and hands-on activities suited to their development.

Weekly movement sessions

Game-based training through which children develop coordination, balance, confidence, and teamwork.

Healthy-nutrition education

Monthly sessions where children explore the world of food through games and hands-on tasks.

Learning through play

Stories, games, and practical activities that make learning engaging and accessible.

More nature, less screen time

We encourage time spent in nature and limit screen time.

Parent meetings

We work with families to build a healthy family environment.

Medical support

Professional consultations when needed for children who require additional attention.

Our goal is not simply to provide information. Our goal is to build a mindset and behaviors that will stay with children throughout their lives.

Behind the initiative stands a multidisciplinary team of specialists who share a common mission — prevention through education.

Together with families

Why we work with parents

No program can succeed without the active involvement of the family. That is why we hold regular meetings with parents, during which we discuss:

When parents, teachers, and specialists work together, the results last.

  • Healthy nutrition at home
  • Building sustainable habits
  • Limiting screen time
  • The importance of movement
  • Creating a positive family environment
Our vision

Looking to the future

We dream of a society where every child has the chance to grow up healthy, active, and confident.

We believe that investing in children's health is investing in the future of Bulgaria.

That is why we continue working to build a sustainable model of prevention that unites kindergartens, schools, parents, and health professionals in one shared cause.

Because every child deserves a healthy childhood. And every healthy childhood is the foundation of a better future.

Individual Support for Children and Families

Childhood obesity is one of the most serious health challenges of modern society. It affects not only body weight, but also a child's physical development, metabolic health, self-esteem and quality of life.

As a certified Childhood Obesity Specialist (HFE), I work with children and their families to build healthy habits, safely increase physical activity and gradually improve body composition through an evidence-based, individual approach.

How I can help

An individual nutrition plan suited to the child's age, growth and food preferences
Building healthy eating habits without extreme restrictions or strict diets
Increasing daily physical activity through exercise the child finds suitable and enjoyable
An individual training program based on age, fitness level and interests
Reducing a sedentary lifestyle and excessive screen time
Improving motor skills, coordination, strength and endurance
Support in building confidence and a positive relationship with movement and sport
Working with parents to create a healthy family environment and sustainable habits
Guidance on tracking lab markers and nutritional deficiencies when needed, in cooperation with the treating physician

My approach

Work with children never begins with the scale. It begins with understanding the child's daily life, eating habits, family environment, physical activity and emotional state.

The goal

The goal is not simply for the child to lose weight, but to build a healthy relationship with food, discover the joy of movement and develop habits that serve them for life. We work on long-term change, not temporary results.

Working with the family

Successful change starts at home. That is why the program involves parents actively — with practical guidance on family meals and creating an environment that supports the child without bans, punishment or guilt.

Important note

Responsible work with children

  • Work with children is carried out only with the active participation of a parent or legal guardian.
  • The programs do not replace medical assessment or treatment.
  • When endocrine, metabolic or other conditions are present, the approach follows the recommendations of the treating pediatrician or the relevant medical specialist.
  • All programs are built individually, and results depend on the child's age, health status, family environment, consistency and the engagement of the child and their parents.
